Lost In Myth: Ep 4.2 “Confirmed Dead”

815TunisiaPaperOh, the tangled web Lost weaves. The episode begins with an underwater search craft stumbling upon the remains of Oceanic Flight 815. Once again, it would seem that the gangs’ flight did really crash after all. But not so fast. Interestingly, the parts of the plane that are being shown underwater—the nose for example—had already been seen on the island. So how can it be in two places at once? Unless, as one of the sub-theories of The Myth of Lost theory suggests, this is the real-life version of the plane that exists in the simulation. Another possibility is that this is a dummy plane with dummy corpses or substitute bodies meant to decoy whatever really happened to flight 815. In other words, Oceanic may have staged this wreckage. Lost In Myth: Ep 4.1 “Beginning of the End”

800px-4x01_being_a_babyThe episode opens with Hurley speeding in his Camaro, trying to escape the police. When they apprehend him, he shouts out that he’s one of the “Oceanic Six.” Apparently, this is another flash-forward and we can assume that Hurley also made it off the island. We next see Hurley talking to a police detective (Mike) who mentions that coincidentally, he knew Ana Lucia who was on the doomed Oceanic flight. Mike then asks Hurley if he remembers her from the plane or before it took off—as opposed to the island. Does this suggest that the Oceanic Six somehow went into a time warp and were More »

Lost In Myth: LOST’s Missing Pieces

Thirteen webisodes/mobisodes that were released weekly from November 2007 to February 2008 on abc.com (and Verizon mobile phones). What follows below is the name of each episode, a brief description, and some points on how it fits in with the simulation theory presented in The Myth of Lost. More »

Diary of a Layman #8 (Autumn 2007): Careful What You Wish For

the_truman_show-front_divxWhat if you were the only real person in this world and everyone and everything else was just some kind of simulation created to help give you the experience of your life? There has been at least one Twilight Zone based upon this premise, and the movie, The Truman Show, also explored a similar concept. I wrote about this quite a bit in Layman* and contrasted it to The Matrix myth where everyone is sharing the simulation together. In Layman, the protagonist decides that the world isn’t real, but he can’t decide if it’s all just his dream, or the dream of the entire world. I won’t give away the conclusion he comes to, but I will say that More »

Diary of a Layman #7 (Summer 2007): The Blue Pill or The Red Pill?

red-pill-or-blue-pill There’s a great scene in The Matrix that really reminds me of what’s going on in the  world right now.

Diary of a Layman #6 (Spring 2007): Enter The Warrior

TheWarriorQualityEven though I live in NYC, it’s not often that I see people with mohawks. I mention this because yesterday, I saw a guy carrying a baby that had one. I thought this odd, yet cool, and quickly forgot about it. But as I was getting off the subway a couple hours later, I saw a five-year-old kid with a mohawk standing right in front of me, about to get on. Now I found this very peculiar. Was there some kind of mohawk convention going on in the city? None that I knew of. Stranger still, fifteen minutes later on the other side of town, I saw yet another Mohawk! This one donned by a twenty-something, otherwise normal looking fellow!  What was going on?? More »

Diary of a Layman #5 (Winter 2007): Mystery Project Revealed!

lostopeningtitleANNCR: Previously on Layman Update.

Marc’s Friend: Is your book out yet?

Marc: No, I haven’t even started the publishing process.

Marc’s Friend: (now with cockney accent and perhaps a crutch under one arm) But please, sir, the WORLD needs the wisdom contained in your book. For we are all doomed without it—DOOOMED I SAY!

Marc: I just had an epiphany. An idea that’s separate from the Layman* book, yet, would enable it to come to fruition a whole lot faster.

Marc’s Friend: My God, man—how?! More »

Diary of a Layman #4 (Fall 2006): Slight Sidetrack That Should Result In Being A Shortcut.

800px-2X21-QuestionMarkTimer“Is your book out yet? Because I think it would make a great holiday gift for a bunch of people I know,” an old friend of mine eagerly asked me today. Yes, it would make a great gift, and as much as I wish I could’ve hit the ol’ FF button on the TiVo of life, alas, I had to tell him that it wasn’t yet available. In fact, I haven’t even started the publishing process yet. More »
